The use of safety mats in businesses is on the rise, and with good reason. Falls can be costly, as they have indeed been linked to workman’s compensation claims and lawsuits. Reducing accident risks is essential.

Safety mats are most often seen in kitchens and other areas in which the floor may become wet or slick. While it is indeed an excellent idea to use them in these areas, there are other locations in which they may prove beneficial. In businesses where customers are present, they should be in place at entryways as well as exits. Additionally, they should be used in front of restroom doors, as these areas can become wet at times.

There is an added benefits to using mats in locations that you may not have considered. Many types now offer thick padding that is designed to not only reduce the risk of falls, but to also help reduce strain on the knees and backs of your employees. If even part of the duties of your employees includes standing in one area for the greater part of their shift, it simply makes sense to provide them with a barrier between their feet and the hard floor.

Foot, knee, and back pain are among some of the reasons as to why an employee may miss work. No business will run well unless vital employees are in attendance. Reducing the amount of missed work days could be as simple as providing employees with a simple tool that will reduce physical stress and strain. Once the mat is in place, they will be able to immediately notice a difference.

Safety mats are available in many different sizes, and can be cut to fit odd areas. Black is the most popular color. However, they are available in other colors as well. Regardless of size, they can be easily be rolled up and removed when the floor needs to be cleaned. The mats themselves can also easily be cleaned by sweeping them off. For a deeper clean, they can be washed using only mild soap and water. Allow mats to dry completely before putting them back in place.

Workplace injuries are serious business, and can be extremely costly. Though it is not possible to completely eliminate the chance of a workplace injury, there are ways in which to reduce the risks.
